KIFA Week 2024: Celebrating Creative Excellence and Fostering Democracy Through the Arts
Windhoek, Namibia – KIFA Week 2024, a celebration of Namibia’s vibrant creative sector, started Satturday on November 29 is to end on December 6, 2024. Under the theme "Creative Competence," the festival highlights the role of creativity in fostering cultural understanding, economic growth, and democratic values.
The Kalahari International Festival of the Arts (KIFA) has become one of Namibia’s premier cultural events, showcasing the power of the arts to inspire dialogue, build communities, and drive progress. KIFA Week 2024 will unite local and international artists, industry leaders, and cultural advocates for an immersive program of workshops, performances, and discussions.
Veronique Kuchekana-Chirau, Chief Program Development and Partnerships Officer for KIFA Week, emphasized the festival’s global significance:

Festival Highlights
Workshops and Skill Development
KIFA Week will offer invaluable opportunities for skill-building, beginning on December 2 with a Financial Literacy Workshops hosted at the National Library of Namibia in Collaboration with Ndapunikwa Investments. These sessions will equip creatives with essential tools for managing their finances and building sustainable careers in the arts.
Youth Engagement and Cultural Education
Inspiring the next generation of creatives is a core focus of KIFA Week. Programs such as the Namib Story Train (December 4-7) and African Literature for Children (December 7) will introduce young audiences to Stories from around the world and the rich heritage of storytelling and interactive learning.
Performances and Collaborations
KIFA Week 2024 was thrilled to host Ou slow, a Namibian band headlining the festival with a performance on November 29 at the FNCC. Other musical highlights include Fasie Kay, who will take the stage at the official opening on December 3 and the closing event on December 7 along with Scarlet Grey.
Exhibitions and Heritage Celebration
The Young Creatives Exhibition “ABS: The Untold Stories”, opening on December 3, will provide attendees with an opportunity to explore Namibia’s rich cultural history and modern artistic expressions.
Thought-Provoking Panels and Industry Insights
KIFA Week will feature discussions and panels that address the intersection of arts, technology, and tourism. Topics include “Digital Solutions for Creatives” (December 4), “Arts Entrepreneurship” (December 4), and “Art as a Destination: Unlocking Tourism Through Creativity” (December 5). These sessions will provide valuable insights for creatives, policymakers, and cultural advocates alike.
Global Reach Through KIFA Online
To connect with audiences worldwide, KIFA Online will livestream key performances, workshops, and discussions. This digital platform ensures broad access to the festival’s offerings and promotes international collaboration.
